Tony Christie, whose real name is Anthony Fitzgerald, was born on April 25th, 1943 in Conisbrough. In 1969 he signed to MCA Records and released a number of hits including "Do You Know The Way To Amarillo?", "Las Vegas" and perhaps most famously "I Did What I Did For Maria" as well as the theme tune to the TV series Poigne de fer et séduction (1972), "Avenues and Alleyways".Although his popularity in the UK waned in the 80s, Tony continued to have hits in Germany. His UK comeback was secured by the Top 10 single "Walk Like A Panther", released in 1999 under the name "All Seeing Eye" and written by none other than Jarvis Cocker. His comeback continued in 2005 when a charity re-release of "Do You Know The Way To Amarillo?" in aid of Comic Relief hit number 1 in the UK charts. Show less «
