Tajna Tanovic is an actress and singer-songwriter with over 20 years of experience in the performing arts in the former Yugoslavia, Germany and the US.She was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia, to a director and playwright mother and a journalist father. She was 1 when she starred in her first film playing a boy. Her first theater role came at age 6 playing Hamlet's mother Gertrude, followed by the role of Liza Minnelli in "Kids Cabaret" at age 7.Her education includes the acting school for children, Koliba (Sarajevo), the Celan Theater School at Burgau Castle (Germany), as well as The Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute (New York).She speaks English, German, French and Bosnian fluently and accent-free as well as basic Spanish and Hebrew.Tanovic was the leading actress of Theater TAS in Germany from 1993 to 2004. The TAS production "Project 3" toured Germany in 1993/1994 and was featured in over ten major theaters with reviews published in papers such as the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Süddeutsche Zeitung. For the role of the Girl in "Project 3" she was nominated for the Best Young Artist Award by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) in 1994. Tanovic's roles at Theater TAS have included: May in Beckett's "Footfalls", Antigone in Sophocles' "Antigone", Ophelia in "Roses are Immortal", Daisy in "Cabaret International", Galathea in "Wedekind's Cabaret" and Ulrike-Marlene in "The Struwwelpit & Co."New York projects have included performances in "The Last Story" (HERE Arts Center, 2011) and "Yard Sale: New Footfalls..." by Theater TAS (Dumbo Arts Festival 2010), "Canal Street Station", a radio theater piece by 31Down and several projects with Dalzell Productions. She is the co-founder of Theater TAS in New York.She was singer of the band "Love in Shakespeare" performing Shakespeare's sonnets. With her voice she contributed to PUMA's widely published "Soundtrip for FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany". Her songs "I Think of You" and "Hey! Hey!" were featured in the theater performance "Mirjana and those around her" by MGL Theater Ljubljana (Slovenia). She wrote music for the performance "Yard Sale: New Footfalls..." by Theater TAS.In September 2011 she self-released her debut EP record "I Think of You", containing 5 original songs, recorded in Brooklyn. The video for the title song, shot in Los Angeles, was written by her and directed by director / producer Samuel Nozik (TV show "Bones").Tanovic has written, co-directed, scored and stars in the short film "Dolly Belle" (2009) - Official Selection at the Big Apple Film Festival & the international chashama Film Festival, 2009.She currently lives and works in Los Angeles (2013).
