Stephen Luby began his screen producing career in prime time television on high profile sketch comedy series such as Full Frontal, Jimeoin and Big Girl's Blouse. Successful feature film projects followed, such as: Bad Eggs, The Craic and Crackerjack. The latter 2 films were #1 Box Office hits, with Crackerjack being the highest grossing Australian film from its release in 2002 until 2009.In 2000, Stephen teamed up with fellow producer Mark Ruse to form Ruby Entertainment - a Melbourne based production company that specialises in producing fresh, ground-breaking and provocative television, film and online content.Subsequent productions have included the The Extra, the Murray Whelan telemovies The Brush Off and Stiff for the Seven Network, the comedy/drama series Bed of Roses, which ran for 3 years on ABC TV and the comedy Whatever Happened to That Guy? for The Comedy Channel.In 2015 Stephen produced the award winning mini-series The Secret River, the ABC's top-rating local drama for that year which won and was nominated for a slew of industry and popular awards.In 2017, he produced the YouTube comedy series HActresses, which subsequently premiered on 9Go! and streamed on 9Now, and the YouTube comedy web series Internment in 2018 which was Screen Australia-funded.Ruby Entertainment teamed up with Robot Army Productions for the viral indie hit comedy Rostered On. Due to its international popularity, Series 1 was picked up by Netflix in 2017. Series 2 was then commissioned by 7Mate in 2019 and is now also streaming on Netflix.In 2020, Ruby and Robot Army again collaborated to produce The Hunt: In Search of Australia's Big Cats for The Discovery Channel.Ruby Entertainment are currently developing a range of comedy and drama projects for the international market.Stephen has won the Screen Producer's Association of Australia 'Producer of the Year' award on 3 occasions, most recently in 2016 for The Secret River, which also won the 2016 Logie Award for 'Most Outstanding Mini-Series or Telemovie.' He has also won Variety Magazine's Top 10 Producers to Watch award.Stephen also lectures in Producing at the VCA (Victorian College of the Arts) - School of Film and Television at The University of Melbourne.
