Born at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland on January 22, only child to William Johnson, Jr. and Corinne Johnson, Spencer Johnson was destined for success. Spencer's parents were successful professionals who attended Morgan State University; Mrs. Johnson was a teacher and homemaker and Mr. Johnson was one of the first black civilian scientists hired by the federal government as a Research Chemist.As a child Spencer read a lot and studied movies from the age of five. It was in high school, while reading Edgar Allen Poe's work, that he knew he had an interest in psychology. "All of his stuff is about disturbed people; he showed the pathology of the human psyche." Studying Edgar Allen Poe and the technology of filmmaking generated Spencer's destined journey. For his college tenure Spencer attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he majored in psychology before attending medical school at the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine. Following medical school, Spencer did his residency at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, DC, becoming Co-Chief Resident in his last year and subsequently completing an Administrative Psychiatry fellowship. He also completed a course at the Hollywood Film Institute.Dr. Spencer Johnson, board certified general psychiatrist and practitioner of holistic health, has a practice in Temple Hills, Maryland. In March 2004, Spencer established Skyrocket Productions, LLC, a full service independent film and television production company located in Prince George's County Maryland. Spencer serving as Executive Producer, Skyrocket produced its inaugural film, 'Safehouse' in 2008 in Fort Washington, Maryland and its second film, 'Coffin' in 2010 in Los Angeles, California. 'Coffin' had its red carpet premiere in Hollywood in October 2011 and will be released on DVD in the summer of 2012. Motion picture production ignited Spencer's zeal to launch the Reel Independent Film Extravaganza (RIFE), which debuted its first ever film festival in Washington, DC in October 2010 and tripled its attendance and production in its second year.An award winning prose writer with years of experience behind the scenes, Spencer has served as Casting Director, Assistant Director, Executive Producer and more. Spencer credits some of his greatest achievements as filming and completing 'Safehouse' which showed the diverse topography of Fort Washington, Maryland; having Skyrocket's inaugural film accepted by a distributor and establishing an output deal; the creation of the of the Reel Independent Film Extravaganza (RIFE); the Hollywood red carpet premiere of 'Coffin'; a successful marriage and his daughter, Jasmine. Spencer welcomes every project as an opportunity to efficiently manage a complex budget and galvanize a productive team of professionals to work towards a common goal. His ultimate goal is to create one to two feature films per year, with Skyrocket being a leading independent production company. Dr. Spencer F. Johnson resides in Maryland with his wife Judy Johnson.
