Soumendra Bhattacharya was born and brought up in the City of Joy, Kolkata. He went to school at Don Bosco Park Circus and grew up shy and quiet until one day in standard nine he discovered his love for public speaking and plays. His English teacher Mr. Anupam Banerjee fueled his passion for drama and he fell in love with the stage. He went on to study Economics in Presidency College, Kolkata in 2010 and meanwhile kept his passion for acting alive by forming a theatre group Mad About Drama in late 2011 with some of his theatre team mates from school. Mad About Drama went on to become a nationally renowned performing arts company and was operational till about 2018. In 2013 he auditioned for a film Ludo which was being directed by the Bengali counter culture icon Q, the maker of Gandu. He got a surprise callback after eight months in 2014. And there he was, started off on his journey as a screen actor. He left college to pursue acting as a profession. Ludo released in 2016 on Netflix and since then he has gone to do a variety of work starting with working with the legendary Anjan Dutt in his film Byomkesh O Agniban in 2017. Since then with the advent of streaming platforms he been working regularly in web shows and films. His first web series Dupur Thaurpo, released on Hoichoi in 2017. It was a mass entertainer featuring songs and dances, starring Swastika Mukherjee, and became widely watched by the audience. He is still lovingly referred to as MTV by many lovers of the show. The vastness of human emotions and the infinite shades of human beings amuse him and he feels he can find meaning in his existence and the world better through the characters he plays.
