Born in Halifax, raised in Prospect Village, Nova Scotia, Sherry studied Psychology and Gerontology at Mount St Vincent University while modeling in Halifax and then onto Toronto. After returning from Toronto in 1996 and having been bitten by the acting bug there, Sherry went on to work several locally produced shows, movie of the weeks and independent films before getting the itch to learn about what goes on behind the camera. She then enrolled in the two year Screen Arts program through the NSCC in Halifax in 1999 and worked on numerous short films. From there she progressed onto the Shortworks training program and directed the successful short film, Finding Peace in 2002. Devanney has just completed her first documentary, Our Race. The 40 min documentary follows the The Women Alike Abreast A River Dragon Boat Team of Nova Scotia for five years. All team members are breast cancer survivors of various ages. The documentary is a loving portrait of the strength, support and power of these women as they connect with the spirit of the dragon and with each other. Sherry is now working with Mentor Pictures and is developing her next project.
