As a child, she appeared in local newspapers for various reasons: productions she was in, pictured at school, playing in the yard, etc. always coincidentally being in the right place at the right time for photo opportunities. She was the class clown in high school, where she appeared in various plays and musicals. In college at U-Mass Amherst where she studied Fine Arts, she distanced herself from performing. After college, she worked as a chef for many years, food became her "temporary" art form. She likened mixing food ingredients to mixing paints on a palette. Her natural instincts for colors transferring over to her food art. In 2002, she moved to California with her best friend, also an artist. She learned to speak fluent Spanish from the Latino friends who worked with her in restaurants across the country. In 2010, she appeared on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives (2006), where she once again got bit by the entertainment bug.
