Sara Hickman is an actor, musician, composer, singer/songwriter, visual/recording artist, creative consultant, music therapist, teacher and the State Musician of Texas (2010-2011), after Willie Nelson and before Lyle Lovett. She has appeared in several stage productions of "The Vagina Monologues" (Houston and Austin), in several films ("Doppleganger" and "Angels Sing"), and has performed twice on "The Tonight Show". She has been nominated for a Grammy, received an Honorary Degree from the National Association of Music Therapists and began singing the Popeye's commercial in 201l. She has sung for Daisy Sour Cream, Wal-Mart, Southwest Airlines and many others. She produced the CD, "Love is A Journey", with the African Children's Choir while in Uganda (2014), and the double-disc CD, "The Best of Times": 39 songs of Sara's performed by Texas musicians (Willie Nelson, Shawn Colvin, Robert Earl Keen, Brave Combo, Marcia Ball, Ruthie Foster, etc) with all proceeds benefiting Creative Action, a non-profit which provides art projects and possibilities for children. In 1990, Sara won First Place in the USA Film Festival for her short, "Joy". She has been on major labels (Elektra/Discovery) and has released many CDS/DVDs on her independent label, Sleeveless. She wrote a theme song for the Komen Foundation, which she performed at Carnegie Hall, and performed two years in a row with the Dallas Wind Symphony. Her recordings have been used in TV and film, including "The Vampire Diaries", "All My Children", "American Idol", "Arachnophobia" and she continues to receive humanitarian awards for her philanthropic endeavors. Sara tours extensively, bringing her comedic and thought provoking storytelling and songs to audiences of all ages.
