Starting as crew in Vancouver starting in 1998, Sara (Samm) Barnes joined Jeremiah (2002), a TV series for Showtime/MGM starring Luke Perry and Malcolm Jamal-Warner in 2001, with Executive Producer J. Michael Straczynski. There she rose to producer status and began functioning as a writer as well as working in all areas of production, including editing, sound mixing, music, casting, prep and other related areas. In 2006, she was selected as one of eight young film-makers to write, produce and direct her first short film for the Crazy 8's Film Festival in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Her film, the comedy "Ashes to Ashes," chronicles the attempt of a young woman to quit smoking, a misadventure that soon spirals into self-delusion and madness as her personality disintegrates in her desire for a single cigarette.
