From the time he was 11-years-old - Sandy Krum dreamed of becoming a Certified Athletic Trainer.Growing up early in Chicago and moving to the Northern suburb of Lincolnwood, Il, Krum became passionate for team sports, specifically Major League Baseball.His parents, Judith and Robert, allowed young Sandy to attend more day games at nearby Wrigley Field than was probably allowed.And, at the age of eleven, he was given an opportunity as the visiting Bat Boy for the Chicago Cubs. It was here he would watch the skilled athletic trainers ready their players for the game that day.In 1982, just six seasons later, Krum's mentors within the game, urged him to attend Ohio University, where he would later earn a degree in Community Health Services with a concentration in Athletic Training and Exercise Science - with honors.In 1986, Krum was rewarded with his first Major League Baseball assignment within the Cincinnati Reds organization by long time mentor, Larry Starr.Krum's early success with their rookie level team in Sarasota, Florida led to jumps to the Cedar Rapids Reds(championship team 1988), and then the Southern League with the Chattanooga Lookouts and longtime Colorado Rockies Manager Jim Tracy.During this time, Krum and Tracy would end up saving the life of 14-year-old Steven Tamayo on a downtown street in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and in 1988 Krum was awarded the American Red Cross And presidential Certificate of Merit for his action.In 1990, the Pittsburgh Pirates brought in Krum to command their Salem, VA (A) team. Once again, he joined famed ATC Kent Biggerstaff. He would then continue his upward climb with stops in Carolina AA (championship team), Calgary, and Nashville AAA.He was granted the Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year Award in years 1994 and 1998.During the summer of 2000, Krum would represent the Pacific Coast League and the Pittsburgh Pirates as Athletic Trainer for the AAA All Star Game in Norfolk, VA.That same year, Krum would address the NATA as a keynote speaker at their Annual Convention in Nashville, TN (Topic: The Shoulder : stretching and function of the same)From 2001-2004 , Sandy would return to Wrigley Field, this time as the assistant trainer of The Chicago Cubs. It was there he would work along long time baseball veteran athletic trainer David Tumbas.From there Sandy's professional career expanded beyond baseball to include a placement with the men's Pro Tennis Circuit (USTA), and a coveted medical team position at the 2006 Men's US Open.In 2007, Dr. Robert Huizenga of Beverly Hills, CA contacted Sandy to join Reveille & 3 Ball Productions as the Head Athletic Trainer and Set Medic for The Biggest Loser, a hit, exercise-based reality weight-loss show. In his 11 seasons, Krum has treated hundreds of contestants.He has also overseen other notable programs including the Student Body, American Gladiators, and Losing It with Jillian Michaels .Krum, a certified, licensed Athletic Trainer (NATABOC) resides in Los Angeles.
