Studied at U.C. Berkeley, graduated U.C.L.A with a bachelors degree in sociology. Began writing for episodic television ("Laverne & Shirley"), before becoming head publicity writer for 20th Century Fox. He began doing unit publicity 1983 and briefly served as vice president publicity for Gramercy Pictures. He lives in London and Los Angeles. His sons,Casey and Sam, are one half of the band X Ambassadors, recording for Interscope Records. He is married to writer Nicola Graydon (The Ancestral Continuum, 2013, Simon & Schuster).
