After graduating the San Francisco Art Institute, Richard Sears made his short film, An Evil Town. The screenplay was adapted from a short story by the late author, Charles Bukowski. The film went on to win many awards including Cannes - Le Semaine de la Critique and The New York Underground Film Festival. Following this achievement, Sears filmed Bongwater (1997), the film featured a relatively unknown cast featuring Luke Wilson, Jack Black, Brittney Murphy, Alicia Witt, Andy Dick, Scott Caan and Jeremy Sisto. The film premiered at the LA Independent Film Festival and has gone on to become a cult-classic.Also during this time, enlisted by Weiden & Kennedy Advertising Agency to do an ESPN campaign, Sears embarked on his commercial directing career that has spanned over 10 years and has produced over 100 commercials.Additionally, Sears has written and directed short films for Canal Plus/France, Nissan, University of Phoenix and Department of Homeland Security.Mr. Sears films have played at numerous festivals around the world including Cannes, Rotterdam, San Sebastian, Berlin, Toronto, Houston, Sonoma and Palm Springs.
