Rafael Kalamat was born in Krakow, Poland and grew up in Montreal, Canada his adopted home town from the age of 3months. Growing up in a tri-lingual household, speaking English, French and Polish and having a creative support system, Rafael Kalamat at a young age was always impersonating other people. His father an engineer and mother a nurse, supported his passions by enrolling Rafael into acting classes at 8 years of age - where from the age of 8 to 19 was auditioning for theater and film in Montreal, studying at Thomas D'arcy McGee for the Fine and Performing Arts then resuming Film and Communication studies at Dawson College in the Creative Arts Program. Rafael will never forget auditioning at the age of 10 for Roman Polanski's Pirates; at the time he had no idea it was a big deal, however, he will never forget the process and what he learned on that day. Not having the certainty of work in the industry, now in his mid-twenties, lead Rafael to other endeavors in returning to school, working in various fields including business administration and the golf industry, however somehow he always returned to the stage. From hosting radio talk shows to working as a background performer, Rafael crawled back into the film industry one step at a time.Traveling and working in L.A., Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver over the last 30 years, Rafael pursued his passion for theater, film & television by working in all aspects of the industry and finally leading to Directing, Producing, Writing and Acting. As an Actra member (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) and CMPA member (Canadian Media Production Association) has given him the opportunity to Produce, Write & Direct and perform in his feature for 2016 called 'Adams Testament'. Along with his co-founding business partner for Reel Deal Guys Entertainment Jason Barbeck and teaming up with Co-Executive producer Philip Moran and Executive first time producers Todd & Elva Yuill. Now living and working in Toronto, Rafael's recent work includes hosting and producing the television series 'In The Room', a number of short films/proof of concepts and working on the release of the Faith based Supernatural Drama 'Adams Testament'.Over the last few years, Rafael Kalamat and Jason Barbeck have crossed paths many times in the film and television industry. Actually the first time they ran into each other was on the set of Flashpoint when we were actors' doubles working as driving specialists. Later, they found themselves cast as constables on the award-winning Canadian crime drama Murdoch Mysteries. It seems Jason and Rafael had a lot in common and they were tired of waiting for the phone to ring. They both had many industry connections and access to scripts, talent, producers, cinematographers, crew and mostly had a common vision of building a production company from the ground up and being able to one day produce a feature. In less than one year, they shot their first feature in 2015, re-writing the original 40 page short film by Jason Barbeck with Rafael co-creating and writing the feature film script... not to mention countless other projects which include giving birth to the original Canadian television series called In The Room which features Canadian actors and film & television professionals in a round-table conversation. These casual conversations were put together to showcase Canadian talent and help build and support the Canadian star system, educating while entertaining the viewers.Rafael Kalamat, now a credible show-runner is slated for several other projects in 2015 and 2016 including an untitled Toronto television drama series. His dream has always been to make features and being able to travel the film festival circuit. That being said, as a struggling artist for so many years, Rafael is grateful and blessed to have the opportunity to pursue his dreams. Rafael would love to leave a legacy for his wife and son... and to him, family always comes first. Rafael is a husband and father first, yet everyone he works with becomes his extended family and treats them with the respect they deserve; as this industry is very challenging, he strives to keep a positive atmosphere and wants people to be creative and be able to showcase their ability as artists and human beings through their work.Rafael loves networking with like-minded people. He personally loves reading scripts and trying to make connections with the right people. Rafael came from the mindset of always searching for work as an artist, and now that his cup is overflowing, He finds that paying it forward is very gratifying. Show less «
