Peter O'Brien was raised in Mill Valley, California, just north of San Francisco. He is a graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in English. After college, he acquired an informal film education working for producers Mark Gordon and Christopher Meledandri, and, later, for the director Harold Becker.In 2002, Peter wrote and directed the twisty short thriller, Self Storage (2002), starring Rainn Wilson and William Mapother. It won numerous Audience Favorite awards at festivals.In 2008, Peter's original script, Unlocked (2017), made the Black List as one of the best unproduced screenplays of the year. It has since been produced. Noomi Rapace, Orlando Bloom, Michael Douglas and John Malkovich star. Veteran filmmaker Michael Apted directed.In 2017, Peter adapted the memoirs of former Colombian president, Andrés Pastrana, for the screen. As a young man, Pastrana was kidnapped by Pablo Escobar while running for mayor of Bogota.As a screenwriter, Peter has numerous projects in development at studios. These include an adaptation of Robert Ludlum's The Chancellor Manuscript for director Marc Forster, and a re-write of actioner Line of Sight for director Ben Affleck.Peter has also worked concurrently as a storyteller for the game industry. He wrote the game story for Halo: Reach (2010), the fourth installment in Microsoft's iconic video game franchise and the last to be made by the game's original developer, Bungie. Peter's story and writing were lauded by fans and the gaming press, and the title's launch broke the existing twenty-four hour record at over 200 million.In 2016, Peter was Story Lead on the Playstation VR game, Golem, a combat title being developed by Highwire Games for Sony.
