Patrick Roper is a worldly, intelligent performer who stands out in most rooms for his towering presence and authoritative demeanor. He can often be seen inhabiting characters that combine an aloof, stoic charm with a complex moral compass.Patrick was born in Seattle, WA and grew up in Auburn, WA in the Cascade foothills. He has worked in theatre and film since he was a teenager and spent most of his summers attending plays and workshops at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. After high school he became a founding member of the Counter Culture Theatre Group producing plays at many venues in the Seattle area. He played the Earl of Kent in King Lear and Macduff in Macbeth at the Washington Shakespeare Festival in the 1994-95 seasons where he received outstanding reviews for his ability to perform Shakespeare in a naturalistic and approachable style. In 1996, he starred in the film A Thousand Years as a young widower helping his brother-in-law to cope with the loss of his sister while traveling up the Washington coast. In 1999, he joined the ensemble cast of the original play Odes by Nathan Auer, which premiered at the Seattle Fringe Festival to rave reviews. Again he played a young widower with a child trying to cope with modern relationships in a complex dating scene.In the early 2000's, Patrick pursued one of his other business ventures working as a master kiltmaker. He was highly regarded as an excellent craftsman and expert on tartans. Upon retiring from that, he traveled the world seeking adventure. He learned to dogsled in the Yukon Territory, photographed tigers from the backs of elephants in the jungles of Central India, went cage diving with Great White Sharks at Isla Guadalupe in Mexico, and went on photo safaris in Southern Africa capturing stunning images of the Big 5 and Secret 7.In 2013, he moved to the Southeast to once again take up acting and has studied under many excellent coaches. In 2015 he won Best Actor for the dark comedy Behind Closed Doors for his portrayal as a bitter man going through unconventional marriage counseling with his nagging wife and then again in 2016 he won Best Actor for the film Scalawag playing a Union prisoner of Southern decent who must come to terms with the consequences of his loyalties. Also in 2016, he appeared in The Birth of the Nation which took top honors at the Sundance Film Festival.Besides being an actor, voice over artist, and producer, he enjoys cooking, travel, wildlife photography, history, and cultural studies. He is married to Kristina Grant and they live a quiet, but always adventurous, life in the Southeast with their bratty, but lovable, dog.
