After Grade Three at Primary school, Patrick moved to Andersontown, West Belfast because his grandparents were sick. After 6 years there, he moved back to Melbourne in August of 1999. He unsuccessfully tried to land an acting career in Ireland and only due to his parents encouragement did he pursue it in Australia. He had guest roles on Blue Heelers and The Saddle Club (2001) and also did a Red Rooster commercial before landing the role of Connor O'Neill on Neighbours (1985). In 2003 he was honoured with a Logie for Most Popular New Male Talent. After departing the show, Patrick spent time in the UK where he worked on several pantos and appeared on the West End in 'Vegemite Tales'.His UK TV credits include 'The Vibe' for Channel 4 and 'Give my Head Peace' for BBC Northern Ireland. Patrick has written, produced, directed and acted in several productions for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, including 'Great Procrastinations' (2005), 'Who Wears the Pants?' (2006), 'Table for Two' (2007) and 'Antics' (2008).Other credits include 'Valentine's Day' for the ABC; 'Rush' for Southern Star and 'City Homicide' for the Seven Network. Patrick does regular voice over work and has appeared in several advertising campaigns and comedy pilots. In 2010 he featured as Alvin in the film 'Bush Weed' directed by Craig Fox and the music video 'The Wrong Brother' by Australian hip-hop artist Briggs. 2012 saw Patrick treading the boards once more in a National tour of 'The Sum of Us', opposite John Jarratt and a return to the screen in the role of Connor in 'Neighbours'.
