Miles Mosley is an upright bassist, vocalist, producer, composer and arranger. As a teen, Mosley won the Los Angeles Music Center's Spotlight Award; was selected to play bass for the 1996 Grammy All-American High School Jazz Band & Choir; and was acclaimed as a "technical virtuoso" by Los Angeles Times jazz critic, Don Heckman. He received his classical training at the Colburn School of Music in Los Angeles, had numerous years of study with jazz bass legends John Clayton, Ray Brown, and Al McKibbon, and received his undergraduate degree in music at UCLA. Since then Mosley has greatly expanded his repertoire, mastering the bass and a vast array of instruments, deftly blending Jazz with Rock, Pop, Funk, and R&B.To describe his style on the upright bass, one can only draw comparisons outside the class of his instrument. Imagine if Jimi Hendrix played the upright bass in the 21st century. Mosley has successfully combined bow work, effects, and 'in-your-face' dexterity to give his instrument his own signature sound. He has been featured in Bass Player Magazine, and recently c0-designed a signature line of upright basses for Blast Cult. The last few years have been the busiest of Mosley's career. He independently released two acclaimed CD's, and appeared as a featured performer on numerous TV shows and music videos. He spent time in the studio recording and collaborating with artists including India Arie, Christina Aguilera, Jason Mraz, Chris Cornell, and Avenged Sevenfold. He co-produced, composed, arranged and performed on actor Terrence Howard's debut CD 'Shine through It', which debuted at #6 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts, and #31 on Billboard 200. Miles also toured across the globe with many artists including Lauryn Hill, Mos Def, and Herbie Hancock, as well as making appearances at the 2007 Grammy Awards telecast with the Gnarls Barkley Orchestra, at the Greek Theater with Jeff Beck, and headlined at The Alex Theatre with the Glendale Pops Orchestra. He accompanied singer Jonathan Davis of rock group Korn on a tour of Europe, where he pulled double duty as the opening performer with his band, and as Davis' solo band bassist. In addition to performing, Mosley is an accomplished composer, scoring for film, documentaries and TV. One of his latest compositions was featured on Disney Motion Picture Studio's "The Muppets" movie trailer. Receiving over 1.6 million hits on YouTube, MTV rated it as one of its' Top 20 trailers of 2011, and it was a 2012 Golden Trailer Nominee for Best Music. He received a 2012 Key Art Award win for Best Music for the trailer for the upcoming Dead Island game, and was also the recipient of the Best In show Award for his performance at NAMM's acclaimed Bass Bash in January, 2012.Mosley performs live twice weekly at the Piano Bar in Hollywood. Backed by his stellar band, The West Coast Get Down, this is one of the most successful residencies in Hollywood. Now in its' third year, the bands' performances are attended by over 700 fans every week. Mosley is also currently (2012) recording his highly- anticipated new album, "Roar", scheduled to be released in the Fall of 2013. Show less «
