Michal Birnbaum was born and raised in Israel, in an Ultra-Orthodox Jewish community. She spent her military service at the Israeli Army where she served as an arts & entertainment reporter at the IDF radio station. Upon finishing her service she moved to NYC, graduated from the conservatory program of The Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute, and was also trained at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. The film Division Ave, written and co-produced by Birnbaum, was successfully funded through Kickstarter. The production has wrapped principal photography in April 2017. The piece deals with the fight for justice of a Latina cleaning lady in Hasidic Brooklyn. It is inspired by real events happening to this day on the modern day slave market on the corner of Division and Marcy Ave. in Williamsburg.
