Michael Smith, Canada's best-known chef, is the winner of a James Beard Award for Cooking Show Excellence, as well as host of Chef Abroad (2007), Chef at Home (2004), Chef at Large (2000), and The Inn Chef (1998) seen on Food Network Canada and many countries around the world. He has begun production for a new series airing in the fall of 2011. He is the National Sustainability Advocate for Sodexo. In 2010, he led the team of chefs in the Whistler Athletes Village cooking for the world's Olympians. He has published four cookbooks: "Open Kitchen: A Chef's Day at The Inn At Bay Fortune" (1998) awarded the bronze medal Cuisine Canada Cookbook award, "The Inn Chef" (1999), "Chef at Home" which is a hit across Canada, and the most recent being "The Best of Chef at Home" also a smash hit across Canada! His fifth book will be released in fall 2011.He has been cooking professionally for over 20 years as a 1991 honours graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York. In 1992, Michael joined the staff of a country inn on Prince Edward Island, The Inn At Bay Fortune, which soon became one of Canada's top ten restaurants. He's truly a chef at large with a career that has spanned the globe.However, his favourite role, is Dad on Prince Edward Island with his son, Gabriel (Gabe), and partner, Rachel Leslie.
