Mayuran Tiruchelvam is a screenwriter and producer for film and television. He is a Sundance Institute Creative Producing Fellow and Film Independent Fellow. His filmmaking is fueled by a vision for a more compassionate and openhearted world.Mayuran wrote and co-produced the noir-thriller The Girl is in Trouble executive produced by Spike Lee and directed by Julius Onah, released by eOne in 2015. He produced the critically acclaimed documentary To Be Takei- a portrait of actor and activist George Takei (Star Trek), which premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and was released theatrically by Starz Digital; and fiction features Across the Sea (winner, Audience Award, 2015 Slamdance Film Festival) a Turkish-U.S. romantic drama; sibling comedy The Mend (SXSW 2014), released by Cinelicious in 2015, and coming-of-age thriller My First Kiss and the People Involved (2016 LA Film Festival), and the documentary The Untold Tales of Armistead Maupin, which will premiere in early 2017.He works as a freelance story and script consultant, pre-production consultant, and line producer for independent films, branded content, and commercials in New York and Los Angeles.In addition to his work as writer and producer, Mayuran is an adjunct professor in the graduate film programs at Columbia University in New York and Sacred Heart University in Connecticut.
