Matthew Waynee was born in Bay City, Michigan. When he was sixteen, he survived a near fatal car accident that required eight hours of brain surgery to repair a life-threatening blood clot and shattered skull. With his athletic pursuits cut short, Waynee found a new challenge in writing. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame where he majored in English and psychology while directing multiple plays. After graduating with honors, Waynee joined Teach For America and spent three years in Texas along the Rio Grande River teaching high school English and and running the drama department. Waynee then moved to Los Angeles and attended the University of Southern California, earning a Master's degree in screenwriting.Waynee still lives in Los Angeles, where he continues to write and direct.
