Matthew attended Mississippi State University (MSU), where, in 2006, he received his B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a minor in business. In December of 2008, Matthew received his M.S. from MSU's Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, with an emphasis in water resources engineering. His Master's research study, "Evaluation of the Factors Affecting the Fate and Transport of Mercury in a Coastal Estuary", investigated the factors affecting the fate and transport of contaminants, specifically mercury, in coastal estuaries. His research and final technical report focused on methylmercury in Mobile Bay and was as a component of the Northern Gulf Institute's (NGI) comprehensive sediment and mercury transport study for the Mobile Bay Basin Project. Following graduation, Matthew moved to Jackson and began working as an environmental engineer for a private consulting firm. In 2012, he successfully passed his two board exams to become a licensed professional engineer (PE).Matthew's path into the film industry was fairly unconventional, as it wasn't until 2015 that he worked on his first film. Since then, Matthew has been engaged in multiple projects, working both the acting and production side of various film productions.Matthew was born in Greenwood, MS to Samuel and Rebecca Horton. Matthew's dad spent his career as an engineer with the US Army Corp of Engineers. During his early years, Matthew and his family made multiple moves between Mississippi and Louisiana, where he lived in Alexandria, LA, Shreveport, LA, until returning to Greenwood in the 5th grade through end of high school.
