Matt Vasgersian is an MLB Network play-by-play announcer and studio host where he regularly appears on Thursday Night Baseball, MLB Tonight, Hot Stove, Quick Pitch as well as special event coverage and feature programming.Prior to joining MLB Network, Matt was the Padres' lead play-by-play announcer for seven years. Vasgersian previously manned the Brewers' broadcast booth for five seasons after spending six years in the Minor Leagues.Vasgersian enjoys a longstanding national role with the award-winning NBC Sports Olympic broadcast team, most recently handling play-by-play duties in ski-jumping for the 2010 Vancouver Games, which he also handled in 2006 in Torino. Vasgersian anchored daily studio coverage for the 2008 Beijing Games as well as play-by-play for baseball and softball in Athens in 2004.Vasgersian hosted "The National Heads-UP Poker Championship," for five years at NBC, as well as the "Sun America Sports Desk," "Poker Superstars" and the 2001 Toyota Gator Bowl.In addition to his work for MLB Network and NBC, Matt has been the lead play-by-play voice for Sony Playstation's "MLB The Show" since 2005.An accomplished broadcaster on the national level, Vasgersian enjoyed a full-time profile with FOX Sports that included play-by-play duties with FOX Saturday baseball and FOX NFL Sunday. Matt's football seasons have culminated with calling the FedEx Orange Bowl and the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.A 1989 graduate of the University of Southern California, Vasgersian began his baseball career in 1991 in Huntington, W.V., with the short-season Single-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. His ascent through the minors covered a stop at every level of baseball including a Single-A campaign with the Padres in 1992 (High Desert). Vasgersian moved on to Double-A El Paso (Brewers) in 1993-94, Triple-A Syracuse (Blue Jays) in 1995 and Triple-A Tucson (Astros) in 1996. During the 1995 season, he handled play-by-play on ESPN2's Minor League game of the week, "Baseball Across America."The versatile 42-year-old also lists among his national credits play-by-play with FOX Sports Net's "Baseball Thursday" and FX's "Baseball Saturday Night", "Sports Geniuses," a nightly sports trivia show on FOX Sports Net, "Celebrity Blackjack" on GSN, and three seasons teaming with NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor on FX's "Toughman World Championship Series." From 2004-06, Vasgersian returned to his alma mater, handling play-by-play for USC Trojans Basketball on FSN West.Matt's annual charity Texas Hold 'Em Tournament last year drew a field of over 300 players and celebrities and benefited Tender Loving Canines Assistance Dogs in Solana Beach and the San Diego County Fallen Officers Fund.
