Markus was born in Bergen, Norway. He trained as a professional actor at Guildford School of Acting in England, graduating in 1995. His first job straight out of college was a Peter Hall Production of Ibsens play "The Master Builder", alongside names like Alan Bates and Gemma Jones, in the West End as well as touring Britain and limited seasons in Thessaloniki, Greece and Toronto, Canada. He is a much used voice actor, and a lot of Norwegian children recognize him in particular for "Little Charley Bear" (which James Corden did originally). In more recent years he has begun to pursue more film and television work, which landed him the role of Karstens father Harald in the highly successful "Karsten og Petra" franchise (6 feature films and 2 seasons for TV).
