Malan Breton (born June 16, 1973) born in Taipei, Taiwan is an award winning fashion designer, photographer, singer, dancer, award winning costumer, columnist, award winning producer, and director, he is also a media personality, and one of the top 20 actors in Taiwan. based in New York City. "Malan Breton" also refers to his brands of apparel, and accessories. In 2015 Malan Breton took on the role of film director for the award winning film "Malan Breton - A Journey to Taiwan", in which he starred, wrote, sang, and directed. The film won "Best Documentary Short" at the NYC International Film Festival. "Malan Breton takes us on a journey to Taiwan, to find inspiration, to revisit his childhood, to honor his grandmother, and to create the most pivotal collection of fashion he has ever shown at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week." The NYCIFF announced that it has elected to submit "Malan Breton A Journey to Taiwan" to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences for 2016 Academy Awards consideration. Malan Breton won the 2014 European Fashion Council "Eirene" Fashion Award, the 2014 Fashion Icon of the Year award from UCOF, and was nominated for a 2011 WGSN Global Fashion Award. Breton is self taught and never went to design school. He began designing at the age of 11 but grew up, as a performer, in the entertainment industry. In 1996, as a model, Breton moved to New York after a request by Versus and KCD to cast for the New York fashion week Spring 1997 Collection shows at 7th on Sixth. As a model, Breton was photographed by top photographers and directors Herb Ritts, Elen Von Unwerth, Len Prince, Hype Williams, Thom Oliphant, Joseph Kahn to name a few. In 2001 Breton appeared as himself in the film Zoolander. Living in New York, Breton got his start (in fashion) as a celebrity stylist. His clients included Kylie Minogue, Celine Dion, and Linda Evangelista. As Breton worked with these stars, he eventually fell into the design world. Breton studied at Circle in the Square theatre school on Broadway, and later at the Juilliard School. Breton performed on Broadway at the Henry Millers Theatre and Circle in the Square, Breton as a dancer worked with Paula Abdul. Missy Elliot, Sean Combs, and Anne Reinking. Breton acted as a fashion photographer from the years 2000-2004; this work is subject of a book named Fantome 2000 - 2004. Breton became the promo voice of ESPN Extreme Sports and ABC Sports Breton left the entertainment industry to launch Malan Breton Collection In 2005, Breton was one of twelve new designers to watch for on the New York runway in (WWD) Women's Wear Dailies cheat sheet. Breton's fashions have noted mentions on the Oscar, Grammy, Cannes, Golden Horse, Met Gala 2015, and numerous other A-list red carpets around the world, also dressing 2013 TONY awards winner Jerry Mitchell on his winning night, and 2014 TONY Award winner for "Best Musical" Bryce Pinkham. He is also known for discovering Sudanese supermodel Grace Bol. Breton's first two Mercedes Benz Fashion Week official Bryant Park fashion shows were sponsored by Michael Buble and Warner/ Reprise In 2010 Breton starred opposite Academy Award winner Celeste Holme in "College Debts"; the film was a special selection at the Cannes Film Festival. Breton designed costumes for NBC's prime-time game show Minute to Win It. The show starred Guy Fieri which featured "Game Agents" Petra Lauren Gilmore and Ling Ai-Li Wang each week wearing Malan Breton designs. In 2007 Malan Breton came to Princeton University to give a multifaceted presentation on "Optimizing Your Personal Style". He has been on a panel of industry professionals at the Teen Design Fairs for 2008 to 2014 at Cooper-Hewitt In February 2008 Malan Breton along with, Chris Benz, and Prabal Gurung, acted as Judges at the Fusion fashion show, featuring students from FIT and Parsons school of design. From 2010 to 2013 Breton joined an "expert panel of judges, made up of some of the most influential people in the fashion," as judge to WGSN's Global Fashion Awards. Breton along with Kim Kardashian, Whitney Port, and Estelle served as a presenters at the 2010 CEW Beauty Awards, He was also a presenter at the 2011 CEW Beauty Awards. Magazine in a column called "Malan Breton Takes on Oscar Fashion!" Breton's coverage of the British Royal wedding for OK! Magazine, was read by 10.8 million readers and syndicated in two hundred publications. Breton was the subject/host of The Malan Show was featured on Bravo TV as a weekly web series. It followed the process of making it in America as an independent designer. Breton was featured on Australia's Next Top Model, Breton later appeared on Bravo TV's Project Runway seasons 3, 4, and 5. Malan Breton has been featured in every major publication in the world, and has been seen on the Today Show, MTV, VH-1, CEW, Bravo, Oxygen, Lifetime, and over two hundred networks internationally. Malan Breton Collection is featured globally with its signature silks and men's blazers as one of the hottest items amongst the male and female stars of Hollywood and the great white way. Breton cultivated his knowledge of menswear construction while at Turnbull & Asser. His mentors in fashion have included Paul Cuss, Eileen Ford, and Arnold Scaasi.
