Madeleine appeared in Sir Peter Hall's production of As You Like It, which included significant runs at both the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Los Angeles Music Centre, and starred Rebecca Hall and Dan Stevens. She went on to work with Sir Peter on several occasions including his production of You Never Can Tell, which had a West End run and starred Edward Fox, and Hay Fever in which she played Sorel Bliss opposite Stephanie Beacham as Judith. Hutchins' work in the U.S. also includes a run of Mrs. Warren's Profession at the McCarter Theatre, in which she played Vivie opposite Suzanne Bertish as Mrs.Warren and was directed by Tony Award winning director Emily Mann.
