Pistilli's most memorable roles were in Francesco Rosi's Cadaveri eccellenti (1976), Lino Del Fra's Antonio Gramsci: i giorni del carcere (1977), Carlo Lizzani's Italo-Bulgarian co-production L'amante di Gramigna (1969) and Sergio Leone's Per qualche dollaro in più (1965) and Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo (1966), in which he played priest Pablo Ramirez, the brother of Eli Wallach's character Tuco.
