Blues guitarist Little Jimmy King was born Manuel Gales in Memphis, TN, in 1968 (he took his stage name after that of blues legend Albert King, who "adopted" him). He began his career as a rock guitarist in Memphis in the 1980s, but by the middle of the decade he had changed to blues, and his style of blues infused with rock drew comparisons to Jimi Hendrix. In 1988 he formed his own group, Jimmy and the Soul Survivors, but disbanded it a year later to play second guitar with Albert King. When he left King a few years later--with King's blessing--to strike on his own, he formed a band called Little Jimmy King & The Memphis Soul Survivors. In 1991 they signed a recording contract with Bullseye Blues Records and released an album, "Little Jimmy King & The Memphis Soul Survivors".
