Kerri McLean was born in Birmingham, England, and is the youngest of two siblings. Her father is Jamaican and her mother is English of Flemish and Welsh ancestry. From a young age Kerri had a driving energy and passion for drama, after leaving school she went on to study art, media, and theatre at college. She then moved to London to study Modern Drama Studies at Brunel University, and she began working professionally as an actress in 2001. Since then Kerri has gone on to become a theatre director and producer also. Kerri undertook further training through an audio production Masters Degree at London's University of Westminster and often undertakes sound and music collaborations.Currently based in London, Kerri's work covers many productions within the BBC (Including Small Island, Radio 4 Drama, and several BBC series), ITV, Channel 4 and a range of UK independents. She also works within a broad range of theatres, in 2014 Kerri directed BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Cathy Tyson in 'Snakes and Ladders' (Arcola Theatre). In 2013 Kerri won the 'Overall Excellence Award' at The New York Fringe International Festival for her production of 'Kemble's Riot' starring Olivier Award winner Guy Masterson, which she directed and produced. 2012/13 saw her perform at London's South Bank Centre, Alderburgh Festival, Brighton Dome and during Black History Month with her one woman show 'Memories of Mermaids'.
