Kerey Miles Walcott is an actor from Kingston, Jamaica now based in Toronto. Miles, also represents Barbados by way of his father who teaches Theatre at the Cave Hill campus of University of the West Indies. His mother is a Canadian-born, Jamaican raised editor and author, also working at UWI on the Mona Campus in Kingston.Miles took his time to find the acting sphere, but it was watching the rehearsal for one of his father's plays in 2009 that re-ignited his desire to be involved in story telling. Despite studying Political Science at the time, Miles found himself in the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination faculty often, mixing with the film students and fanning the flame. In 2012, Miles was accepted to the Caribbean School of Architecture and went on to complete the degree in 2017.Miles became invested in filmmaking in 2016 when he worked as an intern on the film 'Sprinter' directed by Storm Saulter, eventually being promoted to production assistant. You could say that it was a wrap on his ambitions as an Architect at that point, and the trajectory towards filmmaking gathered speed quickly. A second round call-back in the casting for Idris Elba's 'Yardie' in 2017 was another not so subtle sign that his calling might not be in the built environment. Miles spent some time in the Art department but ultimately settled in the Assistant Director department mainly as a Production Assistant. Miles would have been successful in whichever department he worked in, had he not wanted to be in front of the camera. This feeling was cemented when the biggest title on his resume came to film in Jamaica. The high point of the four week production was the minute or two spent in front of the film's director Cary J. Fukunada for a casting a background role. Miles also a year earlier, was able to find himself in between the power couple Jay Z and Beyoncé for a scene in the On The Run II tour visuals while working as a miscellaneous crew member. Thanks to director Melina Matsoukas, Miles was selected as a 'posse member' and quickly eclipsed any previous experience on the project up to that point. Taking this momentum in the Jamaican film industry, Miles left Jamaica to further his training as an actor and has been working at The Actor's Work Studio with coach Samora Smallwood in Toronto.
