Kathy Rose Center never planned to become an actor, although she did harbor dreams of becoming an astronaut, and did in fact earn a degree in Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Texas at Austin in 1972. She worked 30 years for IBM in Austin, then took an early retirement with the intention of becoming a writer and visual artist. Fate, however, intervened in the form of a class on Playing Shakespeare, and much to her surprise, she discovered a perfect outlet for her creative talents and energy.She has since studied acting for film and stage, voice work and improvisation, with such notable teachers as Alan Arkin, Gabriel Folse, Babs George, Michael Costello, Pato Hoffmann, Ben Taylor and Lainie Frasier. She has also studied film-making with Steve Mims at Austin Filmworks, and screenwriting with Jill Chamberlain.Kathy's eclectic skills and interests include tai chi chuan, ballroom dancing, English and Western horseback riding, flower arranging, pottery, woodcarving, gardening, photography and European travel.
