Julie Mahieu is a Belgian creator, writer, showrunner and actress known for 'De Dag' (The Day), 'Geub', 'Auwch' and 'Red Light'.Mahieu graduated from the University of Antwerp as a Biomedical Scientist in 2002 but followed her passion to work in television and cinema soon after. She took Film and Video classes at The Royal Academy of Antwerp as well as masterclasses by the production company Woestijnvis, John Vorhaus and Charlie Covell. She started her career as a reporter and documentary maker for the Belgian Press Agency and the TV-show Man Bites Dog. In the meantime she developed her first short film, Der Deutschen Morgen.Julie worked as an actress and reporter for the TV-show The Ideal World.She then evolved as a screenwriter, actress and showrunner on her first drama-series The Day, a series with great international success that aired on various platforms across 90 countries. The Day won several prizes, including the CITEM-Award at Biografilm Festival, Bologna, the Best European Fiction Award at La Rochelle, France and Best Series, Best Directing and Best Scenario at the Ensors Awards at Ostend, Belgium.In 2020 Mahieu resumed a collaboration with Jonas Geirnaert and Gilles Coulier for the Lockdown Fiction Series by production company De Wereldvrede and Lecter Media.
