Julian T Pinder is a Canadian-born film director, producer, and writer. In 2017 he created, directed and executive produced the Netflix Original 4-part series Fire Chasers with Leonardo DiCaprio. It was heralded as "Stunning & gripping" in LA Weekly, "Terrifying" on Indiewire, and "Searing and intense" in The Hollywood Times.Pinder founded Deliberate Films in 2007 and was nominated for the US Award for Social Justice at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in 2010, and went on to win and be nominated for festival awards throughout his career. His titles include feature documentaries, Netflix Original series, television movies, and commercial campaigns.Jesus Town USA, directed and produced by Pinder, was commissioned by Sky Atlantic and picked up Showtime and Netflix in 2015. Released initially in the UK, it received 4 stars in The Daily Mail, pick of the week in the Sunday Times, and critic's choice in The Telegraph, and was heralded as a "factual Napoleon Dynamite" in The Globe and Mail.Population Zero was released in 2016, and won Best Feature Film at the San Francisco Independent Film Festival as well as being nominated for Best Feature in numerous other festivals. His first feature, LAND, premiered at the HotDocs film festival in 2010 to four and five star reviews, and was labeled by one publication as "a Joseph Conrad story seen through a Hunter S. Thompson haze". He went on to direct and produce three more feature documentaries which were released in theaters, television, and on DVD collections through KinoSmith and Cargo Releasing.Trouble in the Peace, his second feature documentary, along with a high concept component video game which were featured at Cannes and released theatrically nation-wide, caused a media storm when oil and gas companies accused the Canadian government of unfairly supporting an anti-fracking campaign. The irony was not lost on the filmmaker, who pointed out that the same year the Canadian government subsidized the fossil fuel industry to the tune of 34 billion dollars.Early in his career Julian worked as a producer with Sarrazin Couture Entertainment overseeing numerous projects with Lifetime and CTV, and worked closely with Jennifer Baichwal and Nick de Pencier (Watermark, Manufactured Landscapes), and Helen Shaver (The Unit, Law and Order). During this period Julian also directed a series of short art-house films in wartime Kosovo and Bosnia.Apart from feature film and television, Julian has also created commercial campaigns, MTV Rock the Vote spots, music videos for Grammy-nominated band The Milk Carton Kids starring actress Amanda Seyfried, and recently produced Blondie's two comeback videos.Julian lives with his animals on his off-grid ranch outside of Pioneertown, California.
