His parents are from the Mexican state of Coahuila, JJ grew up on the Texas Mexico border during th e seventies and eighties.His first roles were in school and community theatres at age 8. He landed his first speaking film role in the ITC Films production "Barbarossa" starring Willie Nelson and Gary Busey. He portrayed one of young grandsons of "Don Braulio", played by film legend Gilbert Roland.Martinez pursued life in theatre in high school and attended The University of Texas at Austin. He move to stage arts appearing in "Rosecrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" in Austin and off-Broadway. He help found the Border Players a Southwest Theatrical Company in Texas, and spearheaded bringing Shakespeare to young audiences across rural Texas.Today, he renews his film acting career in Texas, while enjoying life alongside his wife Nora and his 4 children.
