John Miller-Monzon is a veteran creative producer and executive for film & tv. As a development exec, JMM first worked for Independent Film Channel & IFC Films, subsequently returning to IFC TV as interim Director of Development, before becoming Director of Development for News & Documentaries for Viacom's CMT network. His credits for CMT Docs include the docudrama miniseries NASCAR: THE RISE OF AMERICAN SPEED, the unscripted reality series GAINESVILLE, and the acclaimed theatrical features CHICKEN PEOPLE, THE BANDIT, and IF I LEAVE HERE TOMORROW: A FILM ABOUT LYNYRD SKYNYRD.JMM's first notable projects in the documentary arena were two Emmy-nominated miniseries, A DECADE UNDER THE INFLUENCE and MARTIN SCORSESE PRESENTS THE BLUES: A MUSICAL JOURNEY. His feature & television documentary credits include Oscar winner THE COVE, Indie Spirit Award winner CRAZY LOVE, Peabody Award winner BLACK MAGIC and the popular FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD. Additional credits include PGA Award nominee A PLACE AT THE TABLE, Imagen Award winner VIVA BASEBALL, Emmy winner MISSION BLUE and critical darling BEST WORST THING THAT EVER COULD HAVE HAPPENED.JMM launched his freelance career as a film/tv producer on STRANGERS WITH CANDY, Comedy Central's cult sitcom starring Stephen Colbert & Amy Sedaris. Additional scripted series include IFC TV's THE MINOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF JACKIE WOODMAN, starring Laura Kightlinger & Nicholle Tom, and CMT's STILL THE KING, starring Billy Ray Cyrus & Joey Lauren Adams.A California native, JMM grew up in San Francisco, studying and performing with the Tony Award winning American Conservatory Theater while attending top-ranked Lowell High School. After graduating from San Francisco State University, JMM relocated to New York City and earned his M.F.A. in filmmaking from Columbia University's School of the Arts. His thesis film, THINGS WE SAID TODAY, was released in the U.S. by Frameline Distribution and Wolfe Video, and widely programmed at festivals worldwide.He followed it with SOME OF THESE DAYS, another international festival hit, while maintaining a busy career as the senior film editor for Baseline, Inc., the original online database and research service for the film & television industries, and simultaneously worked as a freelance editor on books like PAST IMPERFECT: HISTORY ACCORDING TO THE MOVIES and THE VIRGIN INTERNATIONAL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF FILM.JMM is a member of the Producers Guild of America and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
