John Alyn Lambertson was born in San Francisco, California, to Ann Martin (a teacher) and Sydney Lambertson, who was an executive in the sugar industry and an artist in the Bohemian Club. He was raised both in San Francisco as well as Los Angeles. Lambertson began his career with a burger commercial in San Francisco.
