McIlroy later did a course in Theatre Directing in NIDA before appearing in guest roles on Water Rats (1996), All Saints (1998) and the feature film Angst (2000). He then joined the cast of Home and Away (1988) as Flynn Saunders, replacing Martin Dingle Wall. In his spare time away from the set of Home and Away, he likes to hang out with his friends and go to their theatre productions. He also likes to get out in the sun. Show less «

Obviously it was difficult to come to terms with the character's history, because there were scenes that Martin had done and I hadn't, so in a sense it was like being thrown in at the deep end. Having said that, I did see the opportunity for some very interesting changes I could bring to the character once the relationships within Summer Bay were clearly established. Show less «
