Joe Herrera was born Jose Rafael Herrera. Born & raised in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Joe is the oldest of 3 children. Joe started acting at the age of 9. However, it wasn't until the age of 14 where he he realized that acting would be his true calling.Joe continued to act all through his teen years doing community theatre in New York City. At the age of 18, he went on to further his professional theater training at the City University of New York: Brooklyn College, where he studied with actor/instructor, F. Murray Abraham, Diane Barracuda, Marge Linney, David Garfield and Mark Zeller. Joe studied with Janice Cavalier as a trained tenor and has also studied Dance at the Broadway Dance Center in NYC. He continued to hone his craft in Orlando, FL with actor/instructor Rus Blackwell from the film "Monster" starring Charlize Theron, and stars in Cinemax's Banshee, at the Actor's School. Joe also received his training at the National Michael Chekhov Association (NMCA), where he trained in the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique with Lisa Dalton and Wil Kilroy. He completed the rigorous Three Year Acting Teacher Certification program and in March 2015 he was awarded the coveted Acting Teacher Certification by the NMCA. Since then, he founded his own actor training studio - the Michael Chekhov Studio Orlando where he offers actor training under the Michael Chekhov Technique to all levels.Joe Herrera is a proud member of the Actors Equity Association, and is also SAG-AFTRA eligible member. His credits, just to name a few, include off-Broadway productions with Elizabeth Swados' The Hating Pot", Director Curtiss Cook's The Resting Place", Ralph Lee's Heart of the Earth: A Popol Vuh Story", and "Ferdinand The Bull" a TheatreWorksUSA tour. Film roles included "The Girl in the Watermelon" alongside Actress Meredith Scott Lynn and Actor, Lazaro Perez which was directed by Sergio Castilla and had a TV premiere on Starz Network, Student Emmy Award Winning Revolving Child, A Christian Carol, and Pyscho Sisters. TV roles are: PBS' Ghostwriter, "America's Most Wanted" and "Law & Order." He is actively working on various short and feature length film projects in the southeast region.Joe is actively living in the Orlando, Florida area with his wife, Vanessa and their 6 children.
