Beltoise started out his racing career as a French motorcycle champion, winning 11 titles in only five years, before moving to race cars. He started his Formula 1 (F1) racing career in 1966, but didn't go into F1 full-time until 1968. Beltoise raced without much success until his well-earned and well-judged win in the rain at the 1972 Monaco Grand Prix.
