Jay Tibbs was a pitcher drafted by the New York Mets in the second round of the 1980 amateur draft. Tibbs moved quickly up the Mets minor league chain, playing a key role in leading the International League's Tidewater Tids to the 1983 governors cup.Jay Tibbs was traded to the Cincinnati Reds and went 6-2 with one shut out during his rookie year in 1984. Tibbs would not have another winning record as a pitcher until 1989. During that span, he went 10-16 in 1985 finishing with the third most loses for a pitcher. He was traded to the Montreal Expos after the season. There he went 7-9 in 1986, and 4-5 in 1987. The highlight of his Expos stay was finishing fifth with 2 shut outs. He was released and signed by Baltimore. He started out playing for Baltimore's triple A team in Rochester, and was called up to help a mediocre pitching staff. That didn't stop Tibbs from going 4-15 as Baltimore had one of the worst season records ever in the history of the American League. He rocketed to a 5-0 record the next year, tossing a complete game along the way.
