"England youth international Japhet Tanganga was born on 31st March 1999 in London, England. Born and raised in Hackney, the defender attended Greig City Academy and entered Tottenham Hotspur's youth set-up at the age of 9.Voted 'MVP' at the South Korea Cup in August, 2014, he has been capped by England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 levels, and was part of a young England Under-20 side that won the Toulon Tournament in June 2017. A regular with the Under-16s in 2014/15, he made the step up to Under-18s football in a 3-0 win over Norwich City in November, 2014. He played four league games at that level and also featured in Tottenham Hotspurs' FA Youth Cup fourth round win over Wolves during that campaign. The 2015/16 season saw him play 15 games at Under-18 level in the league, plus two in the FA Youth Cup, and make his Under-21s debut with a start at left-back against FC Schalke 04 in the Premier League Under-21 International Cup in November, 2015. He put in some excellent displays in the UEFA Youth League during 2017/18, starting seven of eight games and scoring in home wins against Real Madrid and APOEL. Despite suffering an injury mid-way through the campaign, he made 15 starts for the Under-23s in the Premier League 2, scoring in a 3-0 home win over Manchester United in August, 2017, while he made two further appearances in the EFL Trophy.Having made his senior debut in a first team pre-season friendly match away to Girona in August, 2018, he impressed in further pre-season outings in July, 2019, against Juventus, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Inter. Japhet made his senior competitive debut with a start in the Carabao Cup third round tie at Colchester United in September, 2019.
