Jack Jacobs was born in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1966, and entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant through the ROTC program. He served in Vietnam twice, both times as an advisor to Vietnamese Infantry Battalions, and earned three Bronze Stars, two Silver Stars, and the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest combat decorationAs member of the faculty of the US Military Academy, Jacobs taught international relations and comparative politics for three years, and he was a member of the faculty of the National War College in Washington, D.C.After retiring from the Army as a Colonel on February 1, 1987, he founded and was chief operating officer of Auto Finance Group. As a managing director of Bankers Trust Co., he led Global Investment Management to $2.2 billion in assets and later co-founded a similar business for Lehman Brothers. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is a director of the Medal of Honor Foundation.
