Ilse Sass was born on the 26th of August, 1908 in Cologne, Germany, and studied at the music conservatory there. She came to the USA in 1939, where she first worked as an accompanist for the singer, Ella Flesch. During her life, she played many concerts, some with the violinist Ernst Drucker. Ilse Sass also had some radio appearances, for example with the violist Harry Zaratzian on WQXR-FM in 1956. She taught piano for many years at the Henry Street Settlement and taught voice for 20 years at Juilliard and at the Manhattan School of Music, all in New York City. She gave concerts for the blind and worked with blind singers. In 1980 she appeared as a piano teacher in the movie "Fame", as well as in one episode of the "Fame" TV-series in 1982.
