Gys DE Villiers grew up in South Africa in a family of 5 siblings. His Parents met in the amateur theatre and his father became a film director and producer of no less than 25 feature films and 12 TV- series. After school and 2 years compulsory military service he attended University of Cape Town where he finished one year of a Drama diploma. He then joined a county theater in 1983 and learned at the feet of some of the biggest names in South African industry: Marius Weyers and Sandra Prinsloo. In 1984 he went freelance and in 1985 he won his first of 12 Awards for "Die Spinner"- a solo show about the harrowing time in the military.His career span 36 years and has built an impressive theatre, film and television career in South Africa and abroad. It includes over 54 professional theatre productions, 30 feature films, 20 television series, 12 long running soap operas.In 2015 he was awarded his Green Card and him and his wife Jaci DE Villiers immigrated to the USA. He says he feels free and safe for the first time in his life and loves his new home NYC.
