In 2012, to pursue his passion for acting, he moved to Rome. He began to study various techniques with many gifted actors coaches both in Italy and the USA. Among them were Ivana Chubbuck, Bernard Hiller and Paul Haggis.
In 2015, his first major film, playing the leading role, was in the thriller “DIABOLIKA” in Italy. For this he received the “VII International Social Commitment Award” the “Star of Merit” as “Young Starring Actor In An International Movie”.
He then played the leading role of Steven in the short film “ANIEL” Directed by Clyde Anderson AKA Claudio Fragasso.
In 2016 his next role was in the short film “BELLO DI MAMMA TUA” and he was awarded as “Best Starring Actor” at the “Film Festival Terra Di Siena”.
In 2016, he received the “National Raf Vallone Cinematography Award” in Tropea, as “Actor Revelation of the Year” and a special mention at the “VIII Culture and Solidarity Award”.
In 2017 he played Luca, a plainclothes policeman involved in a paranormal story in the movie “SCARLETT”.
In 2017 he hosted an event on “Investigative Journalism” at “Dal Verme Theatre” in Milan. Among the guests were many famous journalists from the Italian TV shows: “Quarto Grado”, “Le Iene” and “Striscia La Notizia”.
In 2018 he co-starred in “ED È SUBITO SERA” with Franco Nero and Gianluca Di Gennaro, Directed by Claudio Insegno. Based on the true story of the young Dario Scherillo, killed by the Camorra in a case of mistaken identity. The national movie preview was in 2019 at “Camera Dei Deputati” and the world premiere was at the “Tcl Chinese Theatre” in Hollywood, CA. This film was the acclaimed winner of the “Best Narrative Film” at the “International Independent Film Awards Los Angeles” and also awarded the “Best Drama” at the “South Film and Arts Academy Festival in Chile”.
In 2018 in Milan, he was the Host of the event “The Rights And Duties Of Civilization” by the President of the Constitutional Court Marta Cartabia.
In 2019, he played the leading role of the young father with a problematic life in “MORS TUA VITA MEA” Directed by Alessandro Prete.
In 2019 he played the leading role of Alex, a disabled homosexual in the comedy “LA GOCCIA E IL MARE” Directed by Daniele Falleri. Winner of the Variety Jury “Festival Tulipani Di Seta Nera Rai Cinema” – Multiethnic Award “Italian Black Movie Awards” – Winner of the “Corti sul Mare Festival”.
In 2019 he co starred with Carlotta Antonelli in the 1960s era fairy tale of love and bullying, “ARIDA” Directed by Francesco Maria Dominedò. Winner of the “International Film Festival Terra di Siena” Audience Award.
In 2019 he played the leading role of Stefano De Torres in “IL GIORNO PIU’ BELLO” Directed by Valter D’Errico, produced by Jo Champa and Susan Rockefeller. The story of a boy with solid principles who will have to deal with his own psyche, in a total antithesis of his appearance. Special mention at the “Taormina Film Festival – “Camomilla Award Women for Women” – “Monica Scattini Award” at the “Festival Tulipani Di Seta Nera Rai Cinema” – Winner of the “International Film Festival Terra di Siena” Social Award. Caretta also received the “Comune di Marcellina Award” “For the masterful and courageous interpretation”.
On the “International Day Against Violence On Women”, he performed a monologue on Rai 1 interpreting the “Letter Of Carmine Ammirati To His Mother”, victim of feminicide.
In December 2019 he received the “Lex Et Ars Award” inscribed with: “To The Actor Gianclaudio Caretta, Who Through The Magic Of The Seventh Art, Cinema, Fights Feminicide And Violence Against Women”.
At the beginning of 2020 he started playing the leading role of Robbi, a handyman Robot that becomes almost human, in the comedy “L’UOMO PERFETTO”. Directed by Diego Ruiz, with Nadia Rinaldi and Milena Miconi. After completing a most successful run in Rome, the play has been on tour all over Italy in theaters for three months.
From the overwhelming reviews and outstanding ticket sales, the director Ruiz cast Caretta in the upcoming leading role of Tommy in the show “LA CILIEGINA SULLA TORTA” with Ugo Dighero and Edy Angelillo, now in preproduction to open later this year.
For the past 2 years he has continued studying and training at the “Acting Lab Studio” of Alessandro Prete in Rome.
