Born in Brooklyn but moving around quite a bit in his younger days, Gerard first appeared on stage as Ebenezer Scrooge in an 8th Grade production of, "A Christmas Carol". He continued acting in shows all through his high school years, but stopped after an experience with a bad director in college. In college, he became fascinated with the process of filmmaking and television. He also discovered Renaissance Faires and soon became a familiar sight, either as a gypsy or as a pirate. He joined and even helped form a number of pirate re-enactment guilds, performing at events in and around Southern California. He taught himself sword-fighting and picked up other skills along the way such as black powder pistol firing and maintenance, cannon firing and maintenance, and some sail handling. After a number of regular jobs, he quit the 9 to 5 grind and threw himself into acting full-time. His piratical background paid off when, less than a year later, he was cast as Tearlach in, "Pirates of the Caribbean - Curse of the Black Pearl" with Johnny Depp. He continues to act in films, mainly as a pirate, and appears to be enjoying every minute of it.
