Gary England is the former chief meteorologist at Oklahoma City's CBS affiliate KWTV-DT, a position he has held from 1996-2013 since working at the station in 1972.At 17, Gary joined the US Navy to study meteorology seriously. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma 1965 with a Bachelors Science degree in mathematics and meteorology and is an internationally recognized authority in severe weather. Later he would be a consultant meteorologist for New Orleans based A.H. Glenn and Associates before returning to Oklahoma to work at KTOK-AM [Clear Channel Communications (now iHeart Media)] before joining KWTV [Griffin Communications LLC]Gary holds the distinction of being the person who implemented with Enterprise Electronics, the world's first commercial Doppler radar, and in 1981, he became the first person in history to use Doppler radar for direct warnings to the public. With his offbeat humor and folksy personality, Gary has a cult-like following in Oklahoma. There's even a Gary England drinking game for use during severe weather coverage.Although Gary no longer works as KWTV's Chief Meteorologist, he still works in the same building. The only difference is that he's now Vice President of Corporate Relations and Weather Development at Griffin Communications LLC, the owner and parent company to KWTV-DT.
