"Erik Lamela was born in Carapachay, Argentina in 1992. Erik progressed through the ranks at River Plate in Argentina and went on to make 40 appearances before joining Roma in 2011, where he made 67 appearances in all competitions and scored 21 goals. The attacking midfielder joined Tottenham Hotspur from AS Roma in August, 2013. He was restricted to 17 appearances in all competitions in his debut season at Spurs, 2013/14, and a back injury ended his campaign in December. Erik responded with 46 appearances in 2014/15 and scored five goals - including one of the moments of the season with his spectacular 'Rabona' goal against Asteras Tripolis in the Europa League in October, 2014. After more than a year out because of hip issues, Lamela marked his return to action with an assist away at Leicester City in November, 2017. He then scored in the Premier League for the first time since the opening day of the previous season with a brace against the Foxes in a 5-4 thriller on the final day of 2017/18. In all, he made 33 appearances during that season, adding a further two goals in the run to the FA Cup semi-finals. Capped four times by Argentina at Under-20 level, Erik made his full international debut in May, 2011, against Paraguay. He was named in the Argentina squad for back-to-back Copa Americas in June, 2015, and June, 2016."
