Eric D. Johnson is an American composer and singer-songwriter. He is best known as the front man and sole permanent member of the long-running and influential folk-rock band Fruit Bats, and for his work as a multi-instrumentalist with The Shins, Califone and Vetiver.Johnson began his scoring career with the 2011 film "Ceremony," which was followed that year by the Paul Rudd vehicle "Our Idiot Brother." On the latter film, he served as the soundtrack's co-producer, writing, producing and performing several original songs in addition to score. Other works include James Ponsoldt's 2012 Sundance drama "Smashed," and Susanna Fogel's "Life Partners."His latest work is for Rod Blackhurst's 2017 apocalyptic drama "Here Alone," which won the audience award at the Tribeca Film Festival. He has also helmed the music for several ad campaigns, including for Delta Airlines and Travel Oregon.On the other side of the camera, Johnson had a cameo as a singer performing the Grateful Dead's "Ripple" in Reese Witherspoon's Oscar-nominated "Wild."Johnson founded and continues to produce the annual Huichica Music Festival in Sonoma CA. He sings Van Morrison's songs in the Capitol Theater's yearly re-creation of The Band's Last Waltz concert, and both performs and is involved with the organization of the "Alone & Together" series, a songwriter-in-the-round experience that has featured Bob Weir, Kevin Morby, Joe Russo and Josh Kaufman among many others.A Chicago native, Johnson lives in Los Angeles with his wife and dog.
