Brooklyn's Emanuel Xavier is author of the poetry collections, Pier Queen and Americano, the novel, Christ Like (Lambda Literary Award finalist), and editor of Bullets & Butterflies: queer spoken word poetry (Lambda Literary Award finalist). He also selected finalists for Best Gay Erotica 2008.He has been featured on Russell Simmons presents Def Poetry on HBO, In The Life on PBS and the documentary, How Do I Look. Acting credits include background work on NBC's Law & Order, FOX's Canterbury's Law and The Return of Jezebel James and the television pilot, Fort Pitt. He also did principle work on the independent feature film, The Ski Trip, which aired on MTV's LOGO. He will also co-star in the forthcoming independent feature film, Nothing to Nobody, and appears in the independent feature film, The Cult of Sincerity.He is recipient of the Marsha A. Gomez Cultural Heritage Award and a NYC Council Citation.He has performed throughout the country at venues such as: Central Park Summerstage, Joe's Pub, Lincoln Center, Columbia University, Aaron Davis Hall, Riker's Island Prison, DePaul University, St. Mark's Poetry Project, Irving Plaza, The Henry Miller Theater, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Brown University, University of Chicago, Wellesley College, Amherst College, Miami Dade College, University of Louisville, Bowery Poetry Club and Nuyorican Poets Cafe, where he became a two-time Grand Slam winner.He has taught workshops and worked with gay youth organizations such as New York City's Youth Enrichment Services (YES), the New Neutral Zone, New York Peer AIDS Education Coalition (NYPAEC), The Hetrick-Martin Institute, Re:Vision (New Orleans, LA) and Tigertail Productions (Miami, FL).
